Wetlands Invasive Species Removal - Aug. 26

Join the James River Park System’s Invasive Species Management team in removing invasive plants and contributing to native habitat and biodiversity!

When:

Workdays will take place on the following Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.:

  • August 26

  • September 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

  • October 7, 14, 21

What:

Volunteers will use pruners, loppers, and/or non-electric handsaws to free trees of invasive vines, remove invasive shrubs, and clear out other invasive plants in the understory. Prior experience is not required.

Where:

The entrance to the Wetlands is at 3309 Landria Dr., Richmond, VA 23225. Parking is available along Landria Dr. Once you arrive, please follow the main gravel path down into the park until you get to the open meadow (about a 1-2 minute walk). The event coordinator will be there with tools and everything else we will need.

Other Information:

Volunteers will receive notice of any last-minute changes due to extreme weather via email. Tools, work gloves, and instructions will be provided by JRPS staff. Wear long sleeves, long pants, socks, and sturdy closed-toe shoes. Bring drinking water.

Registration:

Hazards include but are not limited to: poison ivy, thorns, stinging insects, uneven terrain, and weather conditions. Please prepare accordingly.
