Flood season in Richmond is here, and we need your help to track it.
From March 20 through June 21, join Southside ReLeaf and the University of Richmond’s “Go with the Flow” campaign by becoming a Flow-Rider — a community scientist helping map flooding across Richmond.
Participation is simple:
Observe conditions in your neighborhood during and after storms.
Submit a quick flood survey each time it rains. Even reports of no flooding are important.
There is currently a major gap in reliable, neighborhood-level flood data in Richmond. Without consistent data, it’s difficult to advocate for infrastructure improvements that reduce flooding. By submitting surveys throughout the rainy season, Flow-Riders help identify problem areas, document repeated flooding, and strengthen the case for long-term resilience investments.
Consistency matters. One report is helpful, but multiple reports over time show patterns, and that is an incredible contribution to our dataset.
Whether you participated last year or are joining for the first time, your observations help turn lived experience into actionable data for change.
