Southside ReLeaf is working with the city to bring four new parks online in South Richmond! One of those parks will be along Ernest Road. For the current phase of the project, we’re seeking volunteers to help remove invasive ivy in the park space to help prepare for planting in the fall.
When are the workdays?
Join us every weekday morning and evening from July 7 through July 11 for invasive ivy removal.

You are also invited to join us for walks in the new park space before each ivy removal shift. Walks will be hosted each day from July 7 - July 11 from 8:30 - 9 am and 5:30 - 6 pm.
What will volunteers be doing?
Volunteers will be removing invasive ground ivy by hand. Removal will include bending, squatting and/or kneeling. For anyone who finds those positions uncomfortable but is still interested in participating, we will have you perform “Free-A-Tree” work on climbing ivy, allowing you to stand. Tools will be provided.
Volunteers may sign up to attend as many “Ivy League” time slots as desired.
Where are the workdays?
Using your GPS, navigate to 2913 Ernest Rd. Parking will be in a residential neighborhood on the street. Parking anywhere nearby is sufficient, but please do not block driveways or mailboxes. Once parked, you’ll walk down the grassy path with the “No Parking” sign and follow the path to the right.
What should I bring?
Please wear long pants and closed toe shoes. Please bring a refillable water bottle. Gloves will be provided, but feel free to bring your own pair. Dress for the weather and use sun protection. You may want to bring a long sleeve shirt for protection from bugs and scrapes.
Do I need to sign up?
