The Riverine Chapter of Virginia Master Naturalists hosts its Basic Training Course annually beginning in January. Virginia Master Naturalists are volunteer educators, community scientists, and stewards who care about nature and want to help Virginia conserve and manage natural resources and public lands. The Riverine chapter, one of 30 statewide, is home to an enthusiastic contingent of those from the Greater Richmond Metro Area.
Session Topics
The training course includes classroom presentations by experts in subjects such as ecology, geology, aquatic systems, botany, entomology, mammals, and ornithology. In addition, instruction is conducted in the field, often at places you might not otherwise have an opportunity to visit.
Training Dates
Classes are held from the first week of January through the second week of April (one meeting per week for 14 weeks, plus some Saturday field trips).
Training Location
Training classes will be in-person at Westminster Canterbury Richmond (1600 Westbrook Ave, Richmond, VA 23227).
Cost
The cost for the class is $150 to cover books, supplies, and speaker gifts. Scholarships are available; please email Brian McGurk at bemcgurk@gmail.com.
