The Tree Ambassador Program (TAP) is a free volunteer training initiative by Southside ReLeaf, designed to empower community members with the knowledge and skills to advocate for young trees and support greener neighborhoods.
What?
TAP is a two-day training, consisting of classroom and in-the-field sessions. We’ve designed the program to make it accessible for all levels, with multiple opportunities for hands-on learning throughout the year.
When?
Saturday, July 26, 2025 | 9:30 am - 1:30 pm
Sunday, July 27, 2025 | 9 - 11 am
Registration for the July session is now closed. We’re hosting an August session on the following dates:
Thursday, August 21, 2025 | 4 - 8 pm
Saturday, August 23, 2025 | 9 - 11 am
Please plan to participate in both days of training for the session you register for.
Where?
The first day of training will take place at the Southside Community Center (6255 Old Warwick Road, Richmond, VA 23225). Where the hands-on portion of training, which will take place on the second day of training, will occur is TBD.

Health impacts of urban greening
How to plant a tree 101
